What Most Dealers Don’t Realize

Most alarm systems are installed, programmed, and left alone. Signals reach the monitoring center, accounts remain active, and everything appears to work as expected.

In many cases, alarm panels are programmed to send signals to an IP address tied directly to a monitoring center’s infrastructure. That routing becomes part of the system, even though it is not controlled by the dealer. As long as nothing changes, it stays in the background.

Over time, monitoring centers update their infrastructure. This can involve changing internet providers, migrating systems, or adjusting network environments, and those changes can affect the IP addresses used for signal routing.

Panels are programmed directly to those destinations, any shift can require updates in the field. For dealers managing a large account base, that often means coordinating service calls, dispatching technicians, and reprogramming panels across multiple locations, even when the monitoring relationship stays the same.
